Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome

What are shin splints?

Shin splints are formally known as “medial tibial stress syndrome” and are categorized by pain and discomfort along the shinbone typically caused by overworking the legs, specifically while running and jumping excessively, and not stretching enough before and after.

What are the symptoms of shin splints?

Swelling, soreness, and pain in the lower legs, specifically near the inner portion of the legs. In the beginning, you’ll notice pain when running or walking vigorously, but over time the pain will spread and you will feel it even when resting.

How do we treat shin splints?

We start by learning more about the way you run so we can determine if you are having issues with your foot placement and form. We do a series of range-of-motion exercises designed to improve your mobility and identify the extent of stiffness and pain.
