Scoliosis What is scoliosis? Scoliosis is known as a curvature of the spine, creating a hump-like roundness in the upper half of the back and an inward curve near the bottom of the back. This condition can be caused by a number of different factors, such an abnormality at birth, the result of an injury or illness, back surgery, osteoporosis, and the by-product of cerebral palsy. What are the symptoms of scoliosis? Symptoms of scoliosis include uneven shoulder blades, hips, waist, and shoulders, along with the trademark “S” shaped appearance of the back. How do we treat scoliosis? Our team starts by studying your back to determine where the root cause of the problem lies. We monitor the way you walk, sit, turn your body, bend and reach, to identify your compensation patterns and correct them. Physical therapy is especially effective for treating scoliosis, since we work with you to correct the shape of the back and improve posture.
