Morton’s Neuroma What is Morton’s Neuroma? Morton’s Neuroma is a condition that causes pain and discomfort to the ball of the foot and often feels as though you are stepping on something repeatedly or have a rock stuck inside of your shoe. This sensation is caused by inflamed tissue that thickens around the nerves that are connected to the toes and results in a burning feeling or in some cases, a feeling of numbness. What are the symptoms of Morton’s Neuroma? Symptoms vary from person to person but one thing that all sufferers of Morton’s Neuroma have in common is that gradual onset of these sensations over time. Most people will notice any number of the following: that it seems as though something is stuck under the foot or within the shoe, sharp pain, a dull sensation of discomfort, or a lack of feeling in the foot. How do we treat Morton’s Neuroma? We assess your condition and determine if you need special shoes during your healing period to make walking more comfortable. Along with suggesting some special footwear, we recommend ice for a reduction in swelling and stretching exercises that will release some of the tension in your feet and legs and minimize your discomfort.
