De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis

What is De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis?

De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis impacts the tendons along the wrist and thumb, causing shooting pain when turning the wrist, trying to grab anything, or making a fist. Sports like golf and tennis can often cause this condition since repetitive hand and wrist turning is involved, but it can also impact anyone who repeatedly puts a lot of pressure on their wrists.

What are the symptoms of De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis?

Symptoms of this condition include pain along the base of the thumb, swelling in the area, trouble moving both the thumb and wrist when trying to grip or pinch something, and a sensation of stiffness when trying to move the thumb back and forth. Some patients report feeling soreness and tenderness along the wrist too.
